For a while there, there was a big push for “mobile-first” design. That seems to have subsided, but that doesn’t change the fact that more and more users everyday are using the internet on their phones. If the UX of your website is bad on mobile, most folks aren’t going to be attached enough to look you up again when they’re at their computer, you’ve just lost them.
3. Not Having Unique Content
Having unique and high-quality content on your website is crucial for SEO success. Search engines value websites that provide valuable information to their users, and penalize those that have duplicate or low-quality content.
If you can’t create unique content on a topic, or feel like plagiarizing the work of someone more well-known in your field is the only way you can create good content, then you need to just choose a different topic. If you can’t improve upon the content that is already ranking well for a given topic or keyword, and/or you don’t have anything new to add to the discourse (like original research, additional unique tips or information, etc) then don’t write it.

Another common SEO mistake is ignoring image optimization. Optimizing images for the web includes reducing their file size, properly labeling them with descriptive alt text, and compressing them for faster loading times.
A note here: Alt Text is explicitly an accessibility feature. Its sole purpose is to provide a clear, concise description of the contents of an image for visually-impaired users who use a screen reader. If you are able to naturally fit a keyword into that description, that’s great. But don’t cram your alt text full of keywords.
5. Not Having a Sitemap
A sitemap is a crucial element for your website’s SEO success. It acts as a roadmap for search engines, helping them index your website’s pages more efficiently. Neglecting to have a sitemap can lead to a decline in your website’s ranking.

The big thing that I see on a lot of creatives’ websites is that heading tags are used exclusively for formatting text, and not actually to provide any framework or architecture to the page. In most website builders today, you can set your custom font and font size without having to use a heading tag. So feel free to use your *aesthetic* fonts, but be smart and strategic about your heading tags.
7. Overlooking Backlink Quality
Backlinks aren’t as important as a ranking factor as they once were. However, they still have an impact, and it’s not just the number of backlinks that matters, but also their quality. Having a high number of low-quality backlinks can actually harm your website’s ranking. If you are going to make acquiring backlinks a priority, make sure you’re doing your research and getting links from high-quality, relevant sources.
